transcritical cycle

A refrigeration cycle in which the high-side pressure exceeds the refrigerant critical pressure, so heat rejection occurs in a gas cooler rather than a condenser with no phase change on the high side. It is standard in CO2 refrigeration systems operating above approximately 31.1 degrees Celsius ambient.
