Shaded Pole Motor

A simple single-phase induction motor that uses a short-circuited copper ring around a portion of each stator pole to create a phase shift and produce starting torque. Shaded pole motors are inexpensive and reliable but have very low efficiency, limiting their use to small auxiliary loads like evaporator fan motors in display cases.
