IGBT

Last updated: June 9, 2026

An Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor is the high-speed switching device used in the output inverter stage of VFDs and soft starters to synthesize the variable-frequency, variable-voltage output waveform. IGBTs combine the high-current handling capability of a bipolar transistor with the low gate drive power requirement of a MOSFET.
