A secondary refrigeration arrangement where a salt solution or calcium chloride brine is chilled by a refrigerating unit and circulated through coils or jackets to cool product or spaces. Brine systems were among the earliest forms of indirect refrigeration and are still used in ice rinks and some food processing applications.
