Control Board

A control board is the central electronic component that manages and coordinates all HVAC system operations through programmed logic and sensor inputs. This circuit board receives signals from thermostats, safety switches, and sensors, then directs power to motors, valves, and heating elements. Modern control boards operate at 24 volts AC and contain microprocessors that enable precise temperature regulation and system sequencing.

Technical Specifications

Control boards typically feature multiple relay outputs, sensor inputs for temperature and humidity monitoring, and diagnostic LED indicators. Common models handle 20-40 amp loads and include built-in safety features such as lockout protection and reset capabilities. Operating temperatures range from 40°F to 125°F, with most boards rated for 10,000 to 20,000 operating hours.

System Integration

The control board interprets thermostat demand signals and sequences equipment startup, preventing simultaneous operation of heating and cooling components. It manages compressor delays, fan speed modulation, and safety shutdowns during fault conditions. Advanced boards include communication protocols for smart home integration and remote diagnostics.
