Reach In Cooler

Last updated: March 11, 2026

A reach-in cooler is a self-contained refrigeration unit with front-opening doors that allows employees or customers to access products without significant temperature loss. These units maintain temperatures between 33°F and 40°F and are essential fixtures in restaurants, convenience stores, and retail food establishments. Reach-in coolers combine compressor units, evaporator coils, and insulated cabinets into compact, space-efficient designs.

Design and Specifications

Standard reach-in coolers range from 27 to 60 inches in width and hold between 9 and 20 cubic feet of storage capacity. Most models feature aluminum or stainless steel exterior frames with magnetic door seals that prevent air infiltration. Interior shelving is typically adjustable, and units consume between 600 and 1,200 watts of electrical power during normal operation.

Commercial Applications

Reach-in coolers are fundamental in quick-service restaurants, bars, and convenience stores where frequent access to refrigerated products is necessary. Their compact footprint makes them ideal for limited counter space while maintaining HACCP compliance for food safety standards. Regular maintenance includes condenser coil cleaning every 3 to 6 months to ensure optimal cooling efficiency.
