Mold Remediation

Last updated: March 11, 2026

Mold remediation involves the complete removal of mold contamination from building materials and HVAC systems, followed by restoration of affected areas to safe occupancy standards. Remediation scope ranges from cleaning localized surface growth to containing and removing extensively contaminated structural materials.

Remediation Procedures

Small contamination areas (less than 10 square feet) may be cleaned with detergent solutions and HEPA-filtered vacuum extraction. Larger areas require containment using plastic barriers, negative pressure isolation, and full personal protective equipment protocols. All affected materials including insulation, drywall, and ductwork are removed and disposed of per EPA guidelines. The space is then cleaned with antimicrobial solutions, HVAC systems are professionally cleaned, and moisture sources are eliminated through repairs and dehumidification.

Prevention and Follow-Up

Successful remediation depends on addressing underlying moisture conditions that enabled mold growth. Post-remediation verification sampling confirms mold levels have returned to baseline conditions before areas are reopened. Ongoing moisture control through proper ventilation, maintenance, and humidity management (30-50 percent relative humidity) prevents recurrence.
