Lineset

Last updated: March 11, 2026

A lineset is the complete assembly of refrigerant carrying tubes, insulation, and protective covering that connects outdoor and indoor HVAC units. This term is often used interchangeably with ‘line set’ to describe the entire pre-assembled or field-assembled tubing package. Linesets are critical components in mini split, ductless, and split-system air conditioning installations.

Technical Details

Complete linesets include insulated liquid and suction lines, flare adapters, caps, and protective sleeves. Pre-assembled linesets come factory-charged with refrigerant in lengths from 15 to 50 feet; custom linesets are field-assembled and charged on-site. Copper tube sizing follows EPA guidelines based on system capacity: 12,000 to 18,000 BTU systems use 3/8 inch liquid and 5/8 inch suction; 24,000 BTU systems use 1/2 inch liquid and 3/4 inch suction.

Applications

Linesets connect ductless mini split indoor heads to outdoor condenser units, serving residential and light commercial applications. Quality linesets maintain charging integrity and prevent refrigerant loss from vibration or age-related wear. Proper lineset installation directly influences system reliability, efficiency, and warranty coverage.
