HVAC Tune Up

Last updated: March 11, 2026

An HVAC Tune Up is a focused service visit that optimizes system performance through adjustments, testing, and minor repairs without major component replacement. This intermediate service level addresses performance issues and prepares equipment for seasonal operation.

Service Scope

A tune up includes thermostat calibration, airflow measurement and adjustment, refrigerant charge verification, electrical contact cleaning, and capacitor testing. Technicians may replace worn belts, lubricate bearings, and clear condensate drain lines. System pressure and temperature readings are recorded to establish performance baselines. The service typically takes 1 to 2 hours per unit.

Cost Efficiency

Tune ups cost 75 to 150 dollars per unit and deliver immediate performance improvements of 5 to 10 percent. This service catches minor issues before they develop into expensive repairs. Regular tune ups reduce energy consumption and extend component life by 2 to 5 years.

Seasonal Application

Spring tune ups prepare cooling systems, while fall tune ups prepare heating systems. Many contractors bundle tune ups with filter changes and coil cleaning for comprehensive seasonal preparation. Industry best practice recommends annual tune ups regardless of system age to maintain peak efficiency.
