Duct Schedule

Last updated: March 11, 2026

A Duct Schedule is a tabular document specifying all ductwork dimensions, materials, insulation requirements, and pressure ratings for HVAC systems throughout a building. This schedule provides contractors with sizing information and material specifications necessary for duct fabrication and installation. Duct schedules are cross-referenced to mechanical plans showing duct locations.

Schedule Parameters

Duct schedules list each duct section with designations corresponding to mechanical plan call-outs. Specifications include duct type (rectangular or round), dimensions (width, height, or diameter), material (galvanized steel or fiberglass), gauge thickness, insulation type and R-value, and pressure class (typically 0.5 to 2.0 inches water column). Velocities and airflow rates (CFM) are included for design verification.

Standards Compliance

Duct schedules reference SMACNA standards for construction, ASHRAE standards for sizing, and local code requirements. Sealing methods and leakage rates are specified to comply with ASHRAE 90.1 energy standards. Cleanability requirements and access point locations are documented.

Installation Coordination

Detailed duct schedules reduce field fabrication errors and enable accurate material procurement. Contractors reference schedules during installation to verify dimensions and connections. Schedules facilitate post-installation ductwork testing and balancing procedures.
