Fall Startup

Last updated: March 11, 2026

Fall Startup is the pre-season service performed before heating season begins to verify that furnaces and heat pumps are clean, safe, and capable of meeting winter heating demands. This inspection prevents heating failures during cold weather when system operation is continuous.

Inspection Components

Technicians inspect and test the furnace burner or heat pump compressor, verify proper gas flow and combustion (for furnaces), test all safety controls and limit switches, and clean or replace filters. Electrical connections are tightened, refrigerant charge is verified for heat pumps, and thermostat operation is confirmed. Heat exchangers are visually inspected for cracks or corrosion that could cause carbon monoxide leaks.

Safety Verification

Fall startup includes combustion gas analysis for furnaces, measuring carbon monoxide levels below 100 parts per million. Heat exchanger integrity is verified through inspection and pressure testing. For heat pumps, heating mode operation is confirmed with discharge temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit at the compressor outlet.

Winter Preparedness

This service costs 100 to 200 dollars and identifies problems while repair schedules remain flexible. Systems failing startup inspection receive repairs before outdoor temperatures drop below freezing. Regular fall startup service reduces winter emergency calls by 60 percent and ensures consistent comfort from September through May.
