Furnace Installation

Furnace installation involves mounting a gas or electric heating unit in a basement, attic, or utility closet to supply heated air through ductwork to conditioned spaces. Furnaces represent the most common heating system type for American residences. Proper installation ensures safe operation, efficiency, and compliance with local building codes and manufacturer specifications.

Technical Specifications

Residential furnaces range from 40,000 to 120,000 BTU input capacity. Installation requires proper gas line sizing per ANSI Z223.1 standards, venting to outdoors through Type B or PVC vent pipe with correct rise and diameter specifications, and electrical connections to 120V circuits. AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) ratings range from 80-95 percent for modern condensing units. Proper duct connections at supply and return plenums are essential for correct airflow.

Installation Process

Professional installation includes unit placement on level pads or suspended supports, gas line connection with pressure testing, proper venting installation with outdoor termination minimum 3 feet above rooflines, blower motor and thermostat connections, and startup safety testing. Installation typically requires 4-8 hours plus combustion analysis and efficiency verification.

Safety and Compliance

Gas furnaces require carbon monoxide detectors, proper combustion air supply, and annual inspections per NFPA 54 standards.
