IO List

Last updated: March 11, 2026

An IO List (Input/Output List) documents all physical connections between field devices and a building automation system, detailing how sensors and equipment interface with the control network. It serves as the wiring reference and configuration guide for system installation and troubleshooting.

Technical Details

The IO List specifies connection points, wire types (18-gauge for sensors, 22-gauge for 4-20mA), input/output voltage ranges (0-10V, 0-20mA, 4-20mA), and terminal locations on control panels. It includes device addresses, communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet), scan rates, and calibration requirements for each sensor. The list maps physical hardware connections to corresponding points in the building automation software.

Installation and Maintenance

Technicians use the IO List during equipment installation to verify correct wiring and configuration. It facilitates rapid diagnostics when communication losses occur between field devices and control systems. The list prevents configuration errors during system setup and software upgrades. Regular verification of IO List accuracy maintains system reliability and supports equipment troubleshooting.
