Phase Imbalance

A condition in which the three line voltages or currents feeding a three-phase motor are not equal, causing uneven heating of the motor windings and reduced torque. Even a relatively small voltage imbalance of 3.5 percent can cause a current imbalance of approximately 25 percent, significantly shortening motor life.
