A Points List is a comprehensive inventory of all controllable and monitored data points in a building automation system, including sensors, switches, and equipment status signals. It documents every input and output that the control system uses to monitor and manage building operations.
System Documentation
The Points List identifies each point’s name, location, type (analog input, digital output, etc.), normal range (0-10V, 0-100%, 32-104°F), and associated equipment. It specifies sensor accuracy requirements (plus or minus 2 degrees for temperature), alarm thresholds, and trending parameters. The list includes point addresses, database tags, and cross-references to control sequences and system diagrams. Physical location descriptions help technicians locate sensors and devices in the field.
Operations and Commissioning
Points Lists enable building operators to monitor system performance and identify sensor failures quickly. They serve as configuration checklists during system commissioning and verify all required monitoring capabilities exist. The list supports troubleshooting by documenting which points relate to specific system functions. Regular updates to the Points List maintain accuracy as equipment changes occur.
