R-452B

Last updated: March 11, 2026

R-452B is a low-GWP replacement refrigerant for R-410A and R-32 systems, offering a Global Warming Potential of 698. This non-flammable HFO blend has been widely adopted in split-system air conditioning and heat pump applications as an environmentally responsible alternative. It maintains pressure characteristics similar to R-410A, enabling straightforward retrofit implementations.

Pressure and Performance Characteristics

R-452B operates at comparable pressures to R-410A, typically between 200-450 psi depending on operating conditions. The refrigerant exhibits a normal boiling point of -48.5°C and demonstrates improved cooling capacity per unit mass compared to R-410A. These performance characteristics minimize the need for system redesign during conversion from older refrigerants.

HVAC Applications

R-452B is extensively used in residential and light commercial air conditioning units, mini-split systems, and heat pumps. The 47% reduction in GWP compared to R-410A supports compliance with federal efficiency standards and environmental regulations. Its compatibility with POE lubricants ensures reliable operation in retrofit scenarios, making it a popular choice for equipment manufactured after 2018.
