Smoke detector integration refers to connecting standalone smoke detection systems with HVAC controls so that detected smoke automatically triggers damper closures, system shutdowns, and ventilation changes to limit smoke spread and protect occupants. This coordinated response improves life safety performance during fire events.

Technical Integration Methods

Smoke detectors transmit signals to fire alarm control panels which relay information to HVAC building automation systems. Integration protocols follow NFPA 72 (fire alarm standards) and building code requirements. Typically, smoke detection activates exhaust dampers, closes air supply, and activates stairwell pressurization fans within 10 to 20 seconds. Addressable detection systems pinpoint smoke source location enabling targeted HVAC response rather than whole-building shutdown.
