A solar monitoring system continuously tracks and records real-time performance data from photovoltaic installations, measuring energy production, system health, and component efficiency. These systems use inverter-integrated sensors, string-level monitoring devices, or module-level hardware to capture voltage, current, temperature, and irradiance readings. Data transmission occurs via Wi-Fi, cellular networks, or hardwired connections to cloud-based platforms.

Technical Components

Monitoring systems include data acquisition hardware, communication gateways, and software platforms. String inverters typically include built-in monitoring capabilities. Microinverters and power optimizers provide module-level granularity. Advanced systems measure plane-of-array irradiance, ambient temperature, and system efficiency metrics.

Performance Tracking

Real-time dashboards display current output in kilowatts and daily energy totals in kilowatt-hours. Historical data enables trend analysis identifying performance degradation or equipment failures. Alerts notify users of inverter faults, string failures, or production below expected values within 5 to 10 percent thresholds.
