Whole-Wall R-Value

Last updated: June 9, 2026

The effective thermal resistance of an entire wall assembly including framing, insulation, sheathing, cladding, and thermal bridges, measured or calculated across the full cross-section rather than only at the insulation cavity. It is always lower than the clear-field or nominal R-value because framing and bridging reduce overall resistance.
